Great article. Thanks. Here’s what stood out to me and my reactions:

“Can philosophical toil—the creation of an elaborate system made in working obscurity—provide life satisfaction on its own?”

No.

“Plato held that the justifying purpose of knowing ‘is not the contemplation of truths for their own sake but the guidance of social and personal life toward greater value.’”

Yes. But direct knowing not conceptual knowing.

“The sense of the world must lie outside the world.”

No.

The sense of the world must lie inside the world.
